Seven hospitals changed hands on July 1 through four completed M&A deals, including an Indiana system’s acquisition of four Michigan hospitals from Ascension:

1. Bethlehem, Pa.-based St. Luke’s University Health Network acquired Sellersville, Pa.-based Grand View Health. Grand View is St. Luke’s 16th campus.

Grand View was established in 1913 as the first hospital in Bucks County. It has grown into a nonprofit, community-based health system of 2,000 employees.

2. South Bend, Ind.-based Beacon Health System completed its acquisition of Ascension Southwest Michigan. In the deal, Beacon acquired four hospitals, 35 outpatient clinics and an ASC. Ascension Southwest Michigan is a regional subsidiary of St. Louis-based Ascension.

The hospitals have been renamed as follows: Beacon Kalamazoo, a 422-bed acute care hospital, formerly Ascension Borgess Hospital; Beacon Allegan, formerly Ascension Borgess Allegan Hospital; Beacon Dowagiac, formerly Ascension Borgess-Lee Hospital; and Beacon Plainwell, formerly Ascension Borgess-Pipp Hospital in Plainwell.

3.  The Chippewa Valley Health Cooperative, an independent nonprofit organization, acquired the former St. Joseph’s Hospital building in Chippewa Falls, Wis., from Hospital Sisters Health System. Last year, Springfield, Ill.-based HSHS closed St. Joseph’s and Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis., ending its presence in western Wisconsin.

The building, now named Chippewa Valley Cooperative Hospital, will serve as an interim campus while the organization constructs a permanent state-of-the-art hospital in Lake Hallie, Wis., which is slated to open in early 2028.

4. St. Louis-based Ascension acquired full ownership of Cedar Park (Texas) Medical Center for $436 million in cash.

Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems sold its 80% ownership stake in the 126-bed hospital to Ascension Seton, a subsidiary of the health system that operates 13 hospitals and 222 care sites in Central Texas.  With full ownership, Ascension President Eduardo said the health system can “accelerate growth, streamline operations and introduce new services that meet the evolving needs of the community.”
